HIPPA

About The Course

HIPAA stands for the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act and was introduced by the United States Congress, in 1996. HIPAA is a United States legislation that has provided a standard for protecting patient’s medical records. It is a regulatory compliance standard. Protected health information(PHI) or medical record that needs protection, is any information that can be used to identify a patient’s personal information, a patient's past medical history, and present or future status of health care records that will be stored. Organizations that deal with medical data must ensure that they are HIPAA compliant. Employees working in such industries need to undergo training on how to handle these records, failing to do so may lead to violations of act and employees could be held accountable. HIPAA also ensures health insurance coverage for all the patients. The standard applies to organizations like healthcare providers and health insurance companies.
